About this accommodation.
Awarded a 4 star diamond award by the prestigious Automobile Association (AA) Accommodation Guide, NB's Guest House is considered to be excellent by the Scottish Tourist board - not to mention by our wonderful guests, many of whom are already back for their third or forth visit.
The Accommodation comprises:
There are bedrooms on the ground, first and second floors. The first floor has the grand old drawing room which many years ago previous owners converted into two rooms but the wonderful cornice was thankfully retained. The top floor, where the maids and cooks would have slept, is also now comfortable bedrooms. The butler would have slept in the coach house with the horses at the rear of the house, but unfortunately this must have been sold a long time ago.
The entire house has modern central heating so is always warm; very important in our chilly winters!
Our aim is to make your stay as enjoyable and of course as comfortable as possible. Most of our rooms have en-suite facilities or a bathroom directly outside the room and new huge queen size beds.
All rooms have Freeview televisions with over 100 channels to choose from, as well as coffee/Tea/Biscuits - and do not worry about packing a hairdryer or iron as we can lend you these when you get here.
We have a variety of rooms: twin, double, triple and family plus our lovely four-poster room, for those more romantic breaks!
About the proprietors Ross and Lorna own and run NB's. They bought the house in 2001 and have worked hard to establish NB's as the prefered place to stay by hundreds of visitors to Scotland's Capital, with many already returning three or four times.
They have a daughter Maxine who is ten and a recently arrived baby son Lachlan! In addition a friendly old cat called "Sunny". The cat is not allowed in the main house during breakfast times, but is often to be found sleeping on the front door mat later in the day!
Dining We recognise that before a days busy sightseeing and shopping, the only way to start the day is with a great breakfast!
Our extensive menu caters for all, offering a wide choice of traditional and Scottish flavours, including warming Porridge, tasty kippers and the awesome Scottish cooked!!!
We also cater for vegetarians, always ensuring seperate utensils and cooking pots are used.
You can relax and enjoy the atmosphere of our traditional Victorain dining room, with original wooden floors and ornate cornicing.
Special Offers 3 nights for the price of 2 all week. Subject to availabilty and not applicable during peak Season periods.
For return guests we will give you the last night free & a free bottle of bubbly!!!! (Subject to seasonal variations)
About the location.
The house is situated in a residential area adjacent to Lothian road - a district of Edinburgh that is home to a number of restaurants, bars, hotels and theatres. With Princes Street just a few minutes further away, and Edinburgh Castle dominating the local skyline, NB's Guest House really couldn't be more convenient for visitors wanting to fully experience Edinburgh at its historic and vibrant best.
However, should you wish for a change of pace, we are only 100 metres from the old Union Canal. A much loved relic from Scotland's proud industrial past and now a haven for wildlife, you can walk or cycle along the banks of the canal for miles or even take a ride on a traditional longboat.

History.
The house was built in the late 1800's and has four floors. The old original kitchens in the basement are now our living quarters. The dumb waiter shaft, where the food was sent up by the cooks from downstairs to the dining room, is still there although we do not think it is operational. The ground floor dining room has been restored as best we could to the original Victorian style although our candle lights have bulbs now rather than oil lamps!
