Great location in a beautiful building

This was our first trip to Edinburgh and we came for the Fringe festival. The flat is in a lovely part of Edinburgh in an old mill. It was lovely to be up amongst the trees and greenery and to hear the water running over the weir. I even saw a heron on our first day. The flat is a bit tired (frayed carpets and curtains, broken towel rails) but it was clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. There is no dishwasher and the cutlery and crockery was a bit grimy when we arrived, so we had to wash it all before using, but the rest of the flat was clean. There is a nice walk into the city centre, but up a steep hill, which may be off putting to some people. The Fringe offers so much that we did not really explore the other aspects of the city, but I am sure we will be back to do that another time. There are great bars, restaurants and coffee shops all about 15 minutes walk from the apartment. It is a little further into the heart of the city ,but a nice and interesting walk. The service from the letting company was patchy in quality. The bathroom door lock was broken, but this was not obvious to my son who then got locked in for several minutes until we could get him out. When we phoned them, the agency told us they were too busy to sort it out! They did come and look, but didn't do anything so we ended up taping the lock so it couldn't happen again (and writing in the visitor book to want others) It is a nice flat in a lovely location, it isn't perfect, but it is fine for a short city break and Edinburgh is definitely worth visiting.

Hi Abigail,
Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you were not entirely satisfied with your apartment. I have noted your comments about the cutlery and crockery and will make sure our cleaners are made aware that this is a potential problem in this apartment.
The apartment is old fashioned, and some of the carpets are a little worn, but not frayed.
I spoke to your partner when he rang to complain about the lock and a lack of pillows. I didn't actually say we were too busy to come out. What I said was that we had a busy day, (Saturdays in August are always very busy!) but that I would be out to look at the lock at some point during the day, and that as I had a key there was no need for you to wait in for me.
Having looked at the bathroom door, I saw that there was an old lock in place which is part of the door handle mechanism. A new brass bolt had been fitted above it. I felt that as your son had already made the mistake of using the old lock, he was unlikely to do it again during your stay and the bolt works perfectly. We have let the apartment for over 3 years and no one else has struggled with the locking mechanism on the bathroom door.
I am glad that you enjoyed your visit to Edinburgh Kind regards, Anabel

A friend & I stayed here for four nights for holiday purposes. The location is excellent , being only 10 minutes walk from Princes Street. The position is delightful, by the River Dean & in the cobbled Dean Village of old Edinburgh, with a riverside walk. We had everything we needed to self cater, but also chose to eat out several times as there are many resturaunts nearby. The maps & info provided were very helpful. Coming by car & entering Edinburgh was very confusing though, & we got lost. However the staff who came to find us were very helpful & quick. I think a little more guidance is perhaps needed to direct newcomers to Edinburgh (by car) to Dean Path. It was helpful to have been given a website (Just Park) in order to find parking nearby.I would choose to come again & recommend it to others.
