A direct train takes about 35 minutes to Edinburgh and there are also the East coast bus service which takes about an hour. During August trains to Edinburgh run until 1am. In addition, there is a night bus service (weekends only) between North Berwick and Edinburgh.
In August, North Berwick is host to "Fringe by the Sea", Scotland's freshest festival, drawing over 80,000 visitors to the charming town. Ivy cottage is ideally situated for Fringe by the Sea visitors and participants, being a 5 minute walk from the main venue.
North Berwick and East Lothian is a paradise for golf lovers, home to 21 golf courses including the historic West Links, North Berwick Golf Club and The Renaissance Club. The Genesis Scottish Open, an annual professional golf tournament, is held at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, typically in July.
