The purpose of this stay was for my son’s wedding at nearby Cairns Farm so the location was ideal. There were four of us at the property and the accommodation was very spacious and there was outside space too.

I have to say that whilst the Gatehouse is a lovely property it’s completely let down by some poor workmanship, defects, non functional interior furnishings, tired decor, missing essential basics and not the level of cleanliness I would expect for a property rental for paying guests.

To enable problems to be addressed and rectified I would hope the list below assists.

No hand towels provided, only bath towels.

Main window blind in the upstairs double room has no cords to raise or lower it so has to be rolled up and wedged into the window so it stays up.

Blinds in downstairs bedroom simply don’t function.

Upstairs bathroom heated towel rail not fixed correctly to the wall so comes away.

Kitchen tap not secure at the base so could potentially lead to a bigger problem.

Inadequate/absence of hanging space in both main bedrooms. Our solution whilst not ideal was to use the portable rail stored in the landing cupboard and put it in the twin room we were not using.

Chipped crockery in the kitchen so suggestion would be to discard &
Insufficient drinking mugs/cups particularly given the property can cater for up to six.

No bedroom mirrors in downstairs bedroom, only in the en-suite.

Cupboards in the kitchen contain random opened groceries, some should have been in the fridge, quite untidy. Some fridge basics and welcome tray items would be far more appropriate.

Liquid hand soap dispenser in the main bathroom was 20ml of water.

Kitchen dish cloth & scourer were hanging damp in the sink cupboard, clearly already used. From a hygiene perspective these should have been new and still in packets.

Main living room curtain rail definitely needs addressing, as it’s on a considerable slant and has been fitted very poorly.

Paintwork and decor in all rooms needs refreshing.

Carpet in downstairs bedroom needs replacing as badly marked.

Bedding should be upgraded for paying guests and at the very least ironed as it looked very poor.

Outside space very unkept and uninviting.

Inside bins not cleaned properly and liners too small so don’t line the bins properly.

Outside bins just scattered over the parking area.

Parking area just about able to take two cars but if a car is parked outside the property opposite it’s not easy to reverse.
